WOMBAT HILL BOTANIC GARDENS

Public BBQ

Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens occupies a commanding perch above Daylesford, accessible via a scenic spiral road that winds to the summit carpark. The historic gardens blend Victorian-era plantings with practical amenities, including a dedicated BBQ shed that provides families with undercover cooking facilities amid the lush surroundings. A short loop walk connects the barbecue area to a charming cafe, though timing matters - staff become notably less accommodating near closing time. The centerpiece observation tower offers panoramic views across the spa country, while magnificent tree archways frame the pathways. Despite occasional maintenance concerns, the gardens maintain their peaceful character as a reliable picnic destination. With ample parking, proper toilets, and that curious historical cannon, it delivers exactly what families need for a proper outdoor meal with a view.
